Austin What Collective?

Post by acrouch »

We've had some sketch popping up in what I consider weird places and I think we should at least have some discussion about our policies on incorporating sketch and stand-up into the Austin Improv Collective schedule.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not a big fan of sketch; it's not my bag. But if we as a community are interested in performing sketch, which we clearly are, I think we should figure out a sensible way of doing it.

I think throwing it in amongst the improv is potentially confusing for the masses who are already way too confused by improv in general. They currently think we're sketch or stand-up anyway, and not making an effort to make that distinction ourselves will only exacerbate the problem. And I feel like once we get rolling and have solid audiences pouring in for improv, they should get the improv they expect and not a surprise sketch show, or 1/3 sketch and 2/3 improv or whatever.

Can we create a sketch slot to neatly house sketch? Other ideas?

i think this is a great idea. personally, i havent done sketch in over 5 years until recently, and doing it reminded me of why improv (the stripe i learned at least) originated.

to create sketch.

at least thats what bernie sahlins thinks.

There are potentially two different audiences for sketch and improv.
There is definitely two different stages at the Hideout.

When the demand gets high enough, it should be no problem selling out both.

For now, as long as it's advertised as such, I don't see a problem with a sketch night in the threefer. The box office that night should make it clear what the customer is purchasing.
