Pan's Labyrinth
I'm back in Austin and am going to take advantage of my new schedule by seeing a matinee of Pan's Labyrinth tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 26th) at 1:50 at Alamo South. Any and all are free to join me.

Kaci and I loved it. We didn't find it too bloody or violent at all, but that may just be because we'd recently seen Children of Men, so it would have taken a lot to shock us.vine311 wrote:That movie kicks ass. I want to see it again.sara_anm8r wrote:Jason will probably give you a stronger review.

Christina and I went to see it opening weekend and spent the evening talking about the storytelling style and everything.
We felt it was/is marketed deceptively as we both felt the percentage of time in fantasy versus real-world was the reverese of what we expected having watched the commercials and trailers. And the times solving the fantastic puzzles were pretty short and easy. But there were a ton of things hidden in the movie that were just incredible to watch. If the devil's in the details then most of that movie was the spawn of Satan because the attention to detail was pretty sweet.
Still haven't seen Children of Men. Want to, but not with any immediate, burning desire.

the Coolest Monster Ever that was featured in the movie is playing tomorrow night's Maestro.

Good old Eyeball Palms? Did you notice the partisan that Vidal shot through the palm in the following sequence. Nice rhymes and echoes of those kinds of visual tropes throughout the movie.arthursimone wrote:the Coolest Monster Ever that was featured in the movie is playing tomorrow night's Maestro.

We saw it last night. I was very impressed with how tight the script was (similar to how I felt about The Prestige.) Elements that are mentioned early on in the film come back in a very satisfying way at the end. Even though I watched them happen and thought "ah, that's going to play an important role later", I enjoyed seeing how they were used later on.
I also forgot there was a friggin' labyrinth in the backyard until the end. It's just introduced and ignored until it's needed.

Is there anybody out there who would like to hustle on over to see the 1:50pm showing of this today, at Alamo South Lamar?
I still haven't seen it so I figure why not today?
Any takers? It's a whole hour and 20 minutes from now...that's plenty of time!!
