THe Newlybed Game! - Live in Austin

Post by Wesley »

From Burbank to Austin comes the Newlybed Game!

Tomorrow night at 8:00, watch as three recently married couples see how well they know their spouses!

That's right, the Newlybed Game will be doing an episode live and in-perrson on the Hideout Stage in the Friday night 3fer!

One host, three husbands, three wives, and a list of outrageous relationship questions! Who will win the stack of fantabulous prizes? Who will leave happy and kissing and who will file for divorce? You'll only know if you are there!

More shall come down the road. This was a blast to do. Doing improv as a costumed character was a lot of fun.

Everyone did a great job. Lamb was awesome as the host! The Senator and his wife discussing using the fromt door or back door was so funny.

Hope to see you at the next one!

Yes, more...

I have a (not so) secret desire to make this into a Mainstage run at some point where we do three game shows (say, the Newlybed Game, the Match Game, and something else like Family Fued). It's like watching Game Show network for the evening. Only we use the audience as contestants. So maybe they'd be a fourth couple in the Newlybed Game, or contestants on the Match Game (with improvisers playing the panel and host).

It still has a lot of work to do to flesh it out, but I think that level of audience interaction may sell pretty well with the right advertising.

If you need a Charles Nelson Reilly on the Match Game panel, I am your man.

By doing three gameshows, we'd probably need some more folks.

Of course, the original Newlybed Folks have dibs on this, but with a run, we could have more and more people.

Go Kitsch!!!!

And then we take it to Whole Foods or Central Market for an improvised Super Market Sweep.

Oh, I can hear it now

"GO FOR THE DIAPERS! NOW THE STEAK! GET THE GIANT NOVELTY INFLATABLE BUDWEISER BOTTLE!"

You work your life away and what do they give?
You're only killing yourself to live

I had strong fantasies as a child about being on Supermarket Sweep. This could be my dream come true.

GET THE BIG TURKEYS FIRST. Oooh, 5 is the limit.
Hey you just ran past the giant Nestle Crunch bar, dummy. How does he not see it?

so the next time you're at the supermarket and you hear this sound, <boop> think of the fun you could have on SUPERMARKET SWEEP.

7 is 6 plus a host which covers newlybed and match game. But for a run we'd need a few extras in case people couldn't make it every week.

I think this could be a lot of fun.

Also, I still want to put together the improvised Iron Chef at Central Market or Whole Foods (I spoke with them about this just a month or two ago and they plan/rent out their spaces 6 months in advance, so we'd have to ask now to get a show in August. Talk about planning!) Of course, as of 1:00 today Jules and I are also all about doing an improvised Iron Chef at Waffle Fest (can you guess what the secret ingredient might be?)

My other goal (though we'd have to have prizes for reals) would be an improvised Let's Make a Deal! where the audience comes in costume. If we could get an audience arriving in costume, I'd say we were pretty damned successful.
