And now for the numbers...

Audience in AIC shows on Friday, January 19th, 2006

Threefer = about 37
Double barrel = about 26
Cagematch = about 9 (only 1 audience member, rest were improvisors)

Keeping in mind that the weather was poor, and there was a see.hear.speak festival that was going on.. not too shabby. Except for the cagematch which costs more money to produce then it generated.

Both speaks were sold out+. And Hear was very close to sold out.

Everyone who's expressed concern about audience numbers should read the "Whose Improv is it Anyway?" entry in Shana's blog

We need to not over-react to numbers (both high and low) for a single weekend. Trends are more important.

(I've been studying stock markets data lately. Can you tell?)

And, if you'll remember, we were expressing concern about audience numbers this time last year. Except, as far as I can rememeber, the numbers were for 3 shows a week. Not 7. So that means we're doing pretty well. I'm not saying we shouldn't push for more more more, but I definitely think we need to keep things in perspective.

That's why I've been pushing for data. How can we do marketing strategies, and decide on what works and what doesn't work when we don't have consistent audience data for AIC shows?

So.. if whoever hosts next week can post numbers.. it would be nice to have audience numbers for every AIC shows for like a year and to see what months were good, and what months were low and needed more advertising.. instead of basing it on "i went last week and there was no one there. i think it's because of x".

I set up a sample database in Google Spreadsheets that would help keep track of the numbers in a way that we all could see and host troupes could add to after their shift.

Who should I give permissions to to okay it?

I don't think the host troupes should be responsible. We hand in the numbers to andy (at the hideout) and he holds on to them. I don't want to volunteer him for the job, but it seems like it'd be easiest for him to just enter the audience numbers as he's doing teh accounting and doling out cash.
