They start the clock when you point to the booth for your song to begin. You can do whatever you want before you tell them to start the music. Once you've pointed you've only got one minute though. Starting your routine before you even hit the stage usually scores well with the judges.

Solo work on stage only, unless the othe 4 people are relegated to the floor in front of the stage during the actual song...i think

Yeah, they can be on stage before you start the song but they've got to be off of it once you point to the booth.
