CAGE MATCH beginning Nov. 4

Post by cargill »

The Cage Match is beginning Nov.4th at the Hideout upstairs at 10:30pm. It's 2 teams who do a 30 min slot each (this is timed, so lights are pulled right at 30 min) and after both teams play, the audience votes on which team as the best. The winning team holds their title against a new challenger the following week........and so on. Teams can be made up of existing improv teams, or totally different ones. Any number of people make up a team, you can pick your team name etc. So the thread about Team Names might come in handy. I am looking forward to grabbing some folks to do the Cage Match !

Hell yes!

I'm up for this, if anyone wants a blood-thirsty improviser on their team.

Though, it might be better to have 2-15 minute rounds for each team. That way both teams have a chance to guage the audience reactions to certain things.

Every time I think that I've gotten beyond being terrified by improv, something new and horrifying comes along. Sounds great.

Is there any advertising for this currently or planned? I think this could draw a good crowd if played up, but I've not seen or heard anything about it except for on this board and in a few jams with other improvisers.

A cage match?
*gulp*
Sounds deliciously terrifying.

And I have to say it....
Let's get ready to rumble!
Fight! Fight! Fight!

1. i just realized that kbadr's icon is a monkey ninja pirate robot.
2. i think you gotta play up the contender aspect of the cage matches in the advertising: boys vs. girls, etc. i'd personally be interested in seeing match-ups like:

- math/science vs. arts/humanities
- under 21 vs. over 21 (or students vs. real jobs)
- girls vs. girls (get another group of girls to go up against GGG)

audiences may not know specific improv groups, but they know who they'd want to see win in a match between, say, math nerds and art freaks.

Really, it would be a good bet to do something like:
Computer Science Nerds vs. Something Else,
because there are quite a fair few of CS nerds.

You know who you are.

Yeah! I like the "genre team" match idea. Teams could be dressed in stereo-type costumes (like wrestlers):

WHITE COLLAR NERDS with glasses, too-short pants, ironed-white collar shirts with pocket protectors, bow-ties, toilet paper on shoe, etc.
vs.
JOCKS/ HIPPIES/ BIKERS/ BLUE COLLAR CONSTRUCTION-TYPES with denim jeans or overalls, tatooed arms, logo or muscle t-shirts, leather, sun-glasses, sport-jerseys, team-color face paint, etc.

OR HOW ABOUT

GOOD GIRLS -- rich, preppy, or square look
vs.
BAD GIRLS -- slutty, gangsta, Goth, or rocker look

OR HOW ABOUT (for HALLOWEEN):
MONSTERS -- zombies, werewolves, vampires, axe-murders, etc.
vs.
VICTIMS -- heroic average joe teens

True, but how do we get audiences to know that there is a "versus" style cage match at all. We're talking only two weeks out and I haven'theard any real announcements about it. Where are the e-mails, the posters, the announcements and hype at other shows, etc? Heck, I'm in the community and still only know half the details.

We should be sending out more information on the Cage Match and how teams are formed etc. It is a great way to play with people that you normall don't play with, plus it's totally fun ! Hopefully there will be some Chronicle plugs via hideout on Cage Match.

THE DEAD
a group of dead celebrities or famous people (historic, pop culture, etc)

vs.

THE LIVING
a group of living celebrities/famous people.

ALL OF THESE CHARACTERS PLAYED IN THEIR OWN UNIQUE STYLE. If you're Marlon Brando then you'd better be improvising as Marlon Brando dammit! And if you're Marilyn Monroe then ... uh ... be really attractively addicted to drugs! I have a great old Elvis costume, I call dibs on the King. haha. PERHAPS: even each of these characters could be chosen by the previous week's audience.

---
MORE IDEAS:
Yanks vs. Rebels OR Good Ole Boys vs. Northerners
Peanut Butter vs. Jelly
Robots (hilarious costumes included) vs. Pirates (hilarious costumes included)
Blondes vs. Brunettes
Atheists vs. Agnostics
Couples vs. Singles
Cats vs. Dogs
Me vs. Everyone (BRING IT ON BITCHES!!!!!!!!!)

seriously though, I'd love to see a special SOLO cage match. Mano-a-mano/womano, etc etc etc...

Dave Buckman's Ass just posted something asking for Cage Match teams.

Anyone want to form a team for a show in November or December?
