NOW HIRING Roadie for Magic show ASAP

Post by smerlin »

The following is from my friend Brian Brushwood, bizarre magician.

Hey guys-- I'm in a real fix, so I'm putting the word out to you guys... I know most of you live nowhere near Austin, TX, but if you know someone who does...

I NEED A ROADIE! Many of you know that for two of the last three semesters, Nick Wells has toured with me all over the country. This semester, however, he's taking time off to make some grownup money instead of touring with me this spring.

You couldn't pick a more exciting semester to join me on tour... this spring is already poised to be our busiest yet! we already have 52 confirmed dates in 23 states nationwide, and should probably pick up another 14 or so in the next couple of months. I'm looking for someone sociable and motivated (males only please... and magic interest or experience are NOT necessary!), who wants to see the world and learn first hand about touring nationwide in the college market.

Your job would be to help set up and break down each show, sell merchandise at the events, and manage backstage while I perform. The actual work isn't very taxing (remember that for years, I've done everything myself), but the travel can be grueling. You'll also be helping to produce the new "Brian Brushwood on the Road" webisodes (http://www.bbotr.com)

The take-home pay won't be great, but the experience will be immeasurable: I'll pay for all your flights, hotels, meals, etc... plus some walking-around money. You shouldn't ever have to open your wallet while you're on the road, and you'll have cash in your pocket when you come home. (speaking of which, make sure you know some people in Austin you can stay with during the times we're back home, or at least someone you can rent a room from)

THE UPSIDE: Travel the country. Meet LOTS of interesting (and often famous) people. Learn all of Brian's secrets of success. Be part of the "on the road" webisodes. See Brian's show over 60 times!

THE DOWNSIDE: Occaisonally grueling travel schedule (many flights require arriving at the airport by 5:30AM). Sharing hotel rooms with Brian. Seeing Brian's show over 60 times.

I can absolutely guarantee that by the time the semester's over, you'll be chock-full of interesting stories from the road about people you've met and places you've seen. Last semester alone, we got to attend the release party for the Xbox game "Gears of War" in North Carolina, Swim in the world's largest hot springs in central Colorado, spend a week at the Universal Hilton to tape a show in Los Angeles, and partied with (no lie!) rock stars and the Patriots cheerleaders in a posh resort in New Hampshire.

I have no idea what this semester has in store, but I promise it'll be good.

If you're interested (or know someone who'd be good for the job), write me RIGHT AWAY at Brian@shwood.com. I need to make this decision in the next 48 hours or so, so I can start arranging travel.

PS - I promise... PROMISE that the next email will have that updated tour schedule and some more fun stuff for you. I'm just trying to put out this fire ASAP.

dudes,
brushwood is a super cool guy. you'd spend a lot of time on the road, but if you're worried about if you can be around this guy, the answer is probably yes. he's good people.
