Zing! (she wrote online at work)

Yeps there are some absolutely vitriolic "childfree-ers" out there. Usually it starts out on Salon, with an article by Rebecca Traister and then someone from the equally vitirolic parenting/homeschooling/unschooling community will start up yelling at the CF's and then they'll follow the mom back to her mamablog, or babyblog or somesuch or back to "I hate kids bloggyblog" and before you know it everyone's calling each other selfish and evil and horrible. Its pretty horrid. And occasionally delightful to watch.
People spend free time in all kinds of ways. At least the way I spend mine is funny and often edible.
They all seem so humorless.

I'm not most people. I have ADHD. I'm also playing backgammon, reading a text book, doing research online and chasing a REALLY fluffy feather.

Okay, I thought the whole married as sub culture thing was kind of funny I didn't mean to get any upset about my "privlage." I have lots of gay friends and understand totally that my choice of partner is totally supported by society whereas other people are condemed.

But about the kids, come on, they only pull that "family first" crap when they want to make women stay home and score points for their side. There is very little support for people with children in any real or meaningful way. They just bring the babies out to kiss'em.

I think I know what you are getting at Ratliff, you mean that basically you are considered unformed or a non-entity until you've made some sort of significant relationship claim? Singles don't count much? Culturally or governmentally?
The way I feel about our culture is that we are damned if we don't (follow those rules) and often pretty damn unhappy if we try do to do everything "right". I'd rather be damned and happy, I think.

well, i don't lose sleep over the fact that rick perry never seems to refer to me in his speeches, but yeah.

but then, anyone who does other than the obvious deals with this. i imagine most of the people who post on these boards have felt marginalized at some point because they're (you should pardon the expression) artists.

That's probably very true. There is a peculiar kind of cognitive dissonance many of us have to live with.
"Getting a careerish full time job, house, kid and a wedding ring would make (fill in the blank from parents to the government) proud and happy. I like making people happy, so I'd like to do what they want. Wait, I don't want to work full time I want to be in a band....wait...I feel funny and wrong. Who do I disappoint?????"
Or something like that.
Of course, some people don't give a fuck about making other people happy or disappointing people, so in some ways they're the lucky ones.
I've been learning about not giving a fuck. Its been nice cause believe me, I've got people pissed at me for not behaving up to snuff and that's with a career, ring and little lucai larvae.
