I pledge to have an baby friendly event at my house (nice big fenced yard) in the afternoon sometime...like a bbq for all of us. Probably even let sweet doggies in too.

Let's name the kid now before they get the chance.

Way too late. We've already assembled, prioritized, sorted, culled, and negotiated over a list of names for the last several months. The list is even under source control. Then, a couple weeks ago, we threw out the list and just picked one.montysmith wrote:I agree! Let the name-spewing begin!
I'll broadcast when the creature emerges - feel free to speculate and suggest until then.
(For the non-familiar, labor follows about 24 hours after membrane rupture somewhere around 80% of the time. So, if you see me at a show tonight, it's because Bernie went to sleep and told me to go...)
Wow. I'm so excited for you. Mine broke at fucking 1 am with Evan and labor started immediately. Ugh. Ouch.
Epidural. Get her one.
Epidural. Get her one.

Bernie was right about on time with the 24 hour thing - labor just started around 3:30am here. Looks like it's gonna be a long night/morning...
We're doing it at home, so no epidurals here, unless something goes really wrong and we have to hoof it to the hospital. We do have a little hot tub set up in the bedroom now, but I'm guessing that's not anywhere near as good as a shot of fentanyl in the spine.
More words as the situation allows. Gonna try to get a couple more hours of sleep before the midwife shows up.
best of luck and if there is a goddess of easy births, may she be present and give Bernie support and a smooth labor. You are in the crucible now. I'll be thinking of you.
So magical. That moment when you hold your child? Unlike anything. The highest I've ever been in my life. Unreal.

Bob and I can make some yummy food and bring it by tomorrow or Monday night, but we don't want to show up as little Gertrude Andi-Crouch Porter Majcher is emerging from her mama's babyhole, so I'll wait until I hear that the birth is complete and then whip up some calzones. Although I don't know what food is going to not make Bernie want to hurl.
Julie, advice?

I remember wanting a GD steak and a shot of tequila myself, but that's cause both my labors exceeded the 24 hour mark. My kids tended towards the recalcitrant.
I think Chris went out and actually got me pad thai that first day after Evan. Hospital food sucks.
What I found helpful were foods that I could just pop in the microwave or oven. Bag o salad, lasagna, soups, that kind of thing.
Or easy breakfast foods since everyone is generally in a perpetually hung over state right after the birth from lack of sleep.
A lot of parenting books tell the mom to eat mild non gas causing foods (so they baby won't obtain the gas causing elements in the breast milk) but I say, eat what you want until it proves difficult for the kid.
So exciting.
