One must die before the achievements of their life can truly be assessed.
Once you do, a special committee will weigh your talent against a feather. If the feather weighs more, Dell Close will carry you into a magickal land where the stage lights always work and houses are always full...but if you fail the test, you will be confined to an eternal game of Maestro, where every scene you do will score a 1 and the perpetual tie will never allow anyone to leave.
Also, we'll toss a piece of paper on your grave to honor your achievement.

i guess prom king is not enough for you, d'alonzo.
i too was dissapointd that the awards seemed skewed towards recent memory and high visibility. I will think of ways for them to more accurately rerflect the hard work of those who deserve it. The problem is, if I just tried to get something going where I said, "email everyone and tell them how awesome they are!" it would fall by the wayside for the most part. Awards are exciting and it gets people involved. I hope that overall it created more good feelings than would otherwise have existed. I know for me that that the happiest moment of the evening was the group photo, where i saw a slice in time of the improv community. improv family.
if there is anyone left who does not feel properly recognized for their hard work and fully appreciated as an improvisor and a human being, please pm me and I will write an honest and heartfelt meaasge to you about what you mean to me and what i see you meaning to the people around us. I am not at all kidding abbout this, people. I want everyone to feel god-damn fucking ELATED to be involved in this community.

I felt a little funny being nominated for four individual awards because I do think they are other people more deserving of mention, but I am very very grateful to have been included and thankful to everyone who even considered me for anything. I was really jolted when I saw the nomination list, sincerely. I guess I've done so many projects that I have been a bunch more visible than those who I respect a great deal and look up to to improve on my skillz.
I am going to frame my awards and put them up because I feel very honored and respect that we pulled this off. I hope that next year, when we've all gotten to see everyone play now that we all really know who is out there and what the community is all about, that the awards fully reflect the level of talent we have and that the nominations wind up spreading the wealth even more. Everyone who was nominated and who won I fully feel were deserving and I look forward to support next year's awards whether I get nominated for anything or not. I have seen everyone in this community play some sweet improv at one time or another.
Again, thanks for the love and it's gonna come back at you!

Sometimes it's a form of love just to talk to somebody that you have nothing in common with and still be fascinated by their presence.

This is a funny thread to read because as someone watching impro in Austin for a good while and just taking classes for the first time, let me say you all KICK DA FUCKIN ASS. From what I've seen.
And you gotta take the right attitude to award programs - either they are a ridiculous joke and reason to get drunk, or they are like the Oscars and 99% about publicity for the whole enterprise (which is a-okay).
Or, like the Golden Globes a little bit of both, and prime opportunity for a Elizabeth Taylor/Ryan Phillipe/Mary Louise Parker drunk-at-the-podium moment. Who doesn't love that?

Awards are about your ego
I don't have problem with awards. It feels good to get an award! But if you crave an award your ego is rapped up in this problem. Just do the art because you love it! If you love it you will get better at it and maybe someday win an award for something over it. But don't count on it. Follow the path of what is right for you to do with your craft and become the best you can be with it. That's all you can ask from yourself I think.
