In 2007 while refurbishing the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile, the US military discovered that it no longer knew how to make Foghead, a key component of nuclear warheads. Foghead’s description and purpose are classified, but the effort to re-learn how to make it added over a year and almost $70 million to the refurbishment program.
