FACT OF THE DAY: In 1975 Wisconsin resident Jim Becker was diagnosed with hemochromatosis, a rare disorder that produces too much iron in the blood. Doctors discovered that Becker had less iron in his blood than would be expected, and then determined the reason why: Becker had donated blood every week since 1952 to support his habit of attending every Green Bay Packers home game. Hemochromatosis is one of the only disorders for which bloodletting is valid medical treatment.
