FACT OF THE DAY: To capture the first-ever photograph of a black hole, astronomers simultaneously recorded data from seven different telescopes around the world (which required all seven locations to have clear weather at the same time). The telescopes recorded five petabytes of data (five million gigabytes), which were shipped to MIT on hard drives collectively weighing more than a thousand pounds.
