FACT OF THE DAY: The asteroid that killed the dinosaurs was so large that its rear was at cruising altitude as its front crashed into the ground. It was moving 20 times faster than a bullet—so fast that it pushed both atmosphere and water aside as it impacted the earth. The resulting explosion was so powerful that it’s been speculated there could be fragments of dinosaur bone on the moon.
