FACT OF THE DAY: Sometime in the late 1600s, British scientist Robert Boyle wrote a “wish list” of 24 problems he hoped could be solved by science. Most items on his list—such as “The Art of Flying,” “The Transmutation of Metalls,” and “The practicable and certain way of finding Longitudes”—have in some sense been accomplished. A few, like “The Attaining Gigantick Dimensions” and “The Cure of Wounds at a Distance,” have not.
