FACT OF THE DAY: At the 1924 Winter Olympics, American Anders Haugen came in fourth place at the ski jump. Fifty years later, a historian discovered that the arithmetic in Haugen’s event had been performed incorrectly, and he’d actually come in third. At a special event in 1974, the 86-year-old Haugen was awarded the bronze, the only American ski jumping medal to date.
