FACT OF THE DAY: Scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory recently discovered that the thrusters on the Voyager 1 space probe, launched in 1977, weren’t functioning properly. As a substitute, they instructed Voyager 1 to use a different set of thrusters that hadn’t been fired since it passed Saturn in 1980. The thrusters worked perfectly.
