FACT OF THE DAY: On February 20, 1962, astronaut John Glenn was midway through his first orbital mission when he reported that his capsule was surrounded by “thousands of small, luminous particles swirling around the capsule” that he later compared to fireflies. Glenn was describing his own urine that had frozen as it was ejected into space. Astronauts since then refer to the phenomenon as the “constellation Urion.”
