FACT OF THE DAY: The statue of Zeus at Olympia was a seated figure over 40 feet tall, installed inside the Temple of Zeus in 435 BCE. It was constructed of ivory and gold attached to a wooden frame, and wore a robe made from glass. After the temple fell into disuse, the statue was destroyed some time in the 5th century CE, suggesting it existed for about 900 years.
