FACT OF THE DAY: In 1913, Chicago socialite Walburga Oesterreich began an extramarital affair with 17-year-old Otto Sanhuber. After some time, Sanhuber moved into Oesterreich’s attic, where he lived secretly for the next ten years, including a cross-country move to a new house in Los Angeles. In 1922 Sanhuber shot and killed Oesterreich’s husband, but remained undiscovered after staging the murder as a botched robbery. Sanhuber finally moved out of the home and remained a fugitive until the statute of limitations had expired.
