FACT OF THE DAY: In December 1973, Wisconsin Congressman Harold Froehlich issued a statement speculating that the United States might soon face a shortage of toilet paper. After Johnny Carson repeated the rumor on his show a week later, there was a run on toilet paper nationwide, driving prices up to double their normal price and inadvertently creating the shortage that Froehlich had predicted.
