FACT OF THE DAY: 7-Eleven was started by an employee of the Southland Ice Company in Dallas. The cold temperatures in the ice house allowed the employee to preserve milk, eggs, and other perishable items for sale. Eventually, he bought out the ice company and made convenience-store items the company’s primary business.
