FACT OF THE DAY: On March 22, 1989, an asteroid called 4581 Asclepius passed within 684,000 km of earth, missing a direct collision by about six hours. Astronomers didn’t discover the asteroid until nine days later. Had it impacted the earth, the collision would have been comparable to a 600-megaton atomic bomb.
