FACT OF THE DAY: Hold music was invented by accident in a New York factory when a loose telephone wire touched a steel girder, which acted as an antenna and picked up the signal from a local radio station. As a result, any caller who was on hold heard the station rather than silence. The factory owner, Albert Levy, reverse-engineered the system and patented it in 1962.
