FACT OF THE DAY: According to his scriptwriter Clarence Jones, Martin Luther King Jr. improvised the line “I have a dream” and much of what followed in his 1963 speech. King was following scripted remarks until gospel singer Mahalia Jackson called out “Tell ‘em about the dream, Martin!” from the stands and he began to speak extemporaneously.
