FACT OF THE DAY: In 1948, investor Roger Babson founded the Gravity Research Foundation, with the stated goal to “harness gravity as a free power and reduce airplane accidents.” The group failed to uncover any method of “gravitational shielding” in its two decades of operation, but lives on as an annual contest highlighting scientific research on gravity.
