FACT OF THE DAY: In 2011, Samoa voted to change its time zone, moving it from the east side to the west side of the International Date Line. The shift occurred just before midnight on Thursday, December 29, 2011, sending Samoa directly to December 31. As a result, December 30, 2011 never occurred there. This was actually the second time this occurred; Samoa had moved to the east side of the line on July 4, 1892, meaning that date occurred twice.
