Any long form classes NOT on Mon/Tues?

Hey imp teachers!

I want to take a long form class but can't do Mondays or Tuesdays. It seems every school that has them coming up are only doing them on those days. Did I miss anyone?

I'm not sure what counts as a longform class in this context, but the Hideout has a level 4 on Thursdays starting in October.

It's basically a personal feedback/scenework diagnostics class.

Damn! I didn't expect replies that fast!

I should have been more specific. I've completed The Institution's 1-4 program and have gone through Hideout lvl 5. So ideally I'd want to do something like Hideout 6 or Institution 5 or Coldtowne... 3?... I think that's the longform intro one, right John? Kevin, I talked to Shana about 401 a while back but she said they wouldn't start again until January. Anyway, something along those lines.

ColdTowne will typically put you in a beginning level even if you've trained elsewhere, partly because the different schools have different approaches to scenework and partly because developing a connection with your class is a big part of the experience. Even people who've graduated from schools with very similar courses of study are encouraged to start with Level 1.

So to be clear, I think you're looking for a class that'll teach you actual forms, like putting together a whole show (Armando, montage, whatever) vs. learning "long form" improv in the sense of "not games". Yeah?

Actually just the opposite. I'm interested in the "not games", or more precisely, doing scenes that last for 30 minutes rather than 3 minutes. I would expect I'd want to learn this before I learn the types of 30 minute scenes I can pick from, right? For instance, in lvl 5 with Andy we built a show (Andy called it a Montage), with a bunch of 3 minute scenes. Not that. And at TIT we learned Harold, which was essential the same thing with the 3 minute scenes in a different format. Not that either. One show, one story, same characters. Does that help?

Okay, I think I see what you're asking for.

You want a class that'll teach you how to do an extended long scene... a form often called a monoscene or a monopop (monoscene with popouts).

It's all super confusing, because montages and armandos and a bunch of other forms are still referred to as longform, even though they're comprised of shorter scenes. It's all about the overall thematic connections.

Now that we got to the bottom of your request, I'll just repeat this oversimplied truism that hopefully makes sense of these terms:

Shortform
Finding the scene in the game.

(Starting with digital rules and filling in this game with the analog delivery.)

Longform
Finding the game in the scene.

(Starting with analog delivery and discovering digital rules and patterns as you go. Or establishing a few digital rules from the start, like a Harold, which influence the overall structure, but not the individual scenes.)


As Roy hinted, it's all confusing jargon-- length has nothing to do with what these labels now describe.
