BRAIN TRUST: BRAIN FREEZE
In the tradition of ZZ Top, Motorhead, Cream, Green Day and the Police, three of the most respected Improvisational actors in Austin combine to form a Power Rock trio of Improvised Theater that is quickly becoming THE cult favorite improv show among those in the know of Austin's robust and growing experimental Underground comedy scene.
Power trios have at times been characterized as loud and bombastic, often embarking on long improvised jams that would highlight the virtuosity of the individual musicians. Brain Trust is no exception.
Their format solicits an actual work environment and explores the underbelly of that economic entity from the points of view of the working class Blue Collars, Middle Management and then the Captains of Industry.
All three trained actors explore all three status levels and social circles patiently and with a rhythm that can only come from the vibes in the room created by those present like a professional jam band.
The worlds collide as the stories of the 9 characters intertwine forming a comedic jazz symphony of honor business and ego.
Brian Trust combines the virtuoso performances of:
Michael Joplin (The Available Cupholders, The Knuckleball Now, Monk's Night Out, Known Wizards, lead actor in Paper Chairs' The Suicide, DJ Manateeman)
Troy Miller (The Confidence Men, Start Trekkin' Junk, Hitchcocked, writer of AFF's 2013 Darkwoods Production Horror Award screenplay "The Hitch" )
Dave Buckman (The The Frank Mills, Rachel & Dave, The Second City, Boom Chicago, Producer of The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival)
Well respected in both the improv performance and theatrical stage worlds, they have, between them, 4 B. Iden Payne Award Wins and 6 nominations for their work in Improvisational Theater.
Usually reserved for special occasion performances, Brain Trust will be performing 5 shows over the next 5 weeks at Austin Improv landmarks Coldtowne Theater and The Hideout Theatre, finishing their run at The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival.
To celebrate the scorching August heat and the wonderful invention of indoor Air-conditioning, Vodka Lemonade cocktails and Frozen Ice treats will be available in the lobby of the ColdTowne Theater shows (AUG 7-21), which is otherwise BYOB.
Both theaters also sell concessions. All tickets are $5
