"With a little help from my friends..."

Post by phlounderphil »

Whassup improv peeps.

So here's the deal. I'm going to be in New Mexico with YM&G from November 2 - November 6.

This poses two problems for me both related to Saturday night.

1) I was scheduled to run the Blank Show that night, this will be impossible. Would anyone like to take that Blank Show and do whatever they want with it?

2) I am scheduled (as always) to House Manage on that Saturday night. Would anyone be able to take my place and do the full nights work (show up at 7 and clean up, sell tickets all night, clean/close the theatre) in exchange you would receive my full-night's pay. ($10/hour).

PM me or email me or respond or whatever.

Come on guys!? An open show, that you can do anything with. I'll even convince my mom to go to the show and be in your audience. My mom! Open show! How can it get better than that?

Though it shouldn't be just another show. It is an experimental slot and should be used to try something a little different than your normal comfort zone.

I just came up with a format idea. if anyone is "up" for it, i'll take the show.

7-Up

A format for 4-10 players.

At the beginning of the show, a suggesttion of a name is given, probably by asking something like, "What was the first name of the first person you had a crush on?" (Jeremy) "What is your father's middle name?" (Craig) "Who was your favorite teacher?" (Ms. McKinney)

"Tonight we will present to you the life of Jeremy Craig McKinney, from 7 up."

Each person will portray the character at a different age, 7, then 14, then 21, etc. At each age the character will have one scene. The division of the ages and length of the scenes can vary depending on number of players (eg if fyou only have four, you could do age 12, 24, 36, 48). In each scene the person playing the main character plays only the main character, and everyone else is support. The overall effect is small vignettes of a person's life rather than a narrativev arc. Some things of course wll carry throughout, but each scene should not be directly related to the previous. It's as if you just happened to check in on this person every so often for their whole life. I haven't seen the series 7-up that this idea is based on, but i imagine that's probably what it's like. I do have it on my netflix queue.

If this sounds like a rockin' good time to try something experimental, let me know and we will claim the night!

You got a problem with how my mom enjoys her improv.

I'll tell her to stop coming to the Available Cupholder shows. *winking now*?

So. Is Valerie taking the Blank Show Slot officially?

Also, is anyone willing to work box office Saturday night for me? You get paid, and I'll even let people do it in shifts.

$60 for the whole night.
or $20 to do box office for one show (Gorilla, Maestro, or Blank Show).
