FACT OF THE DAY: In 1975, an Italian factory worker bought two paintings for $70 at an auction of objects left unclaimed by train passengers, and hung them in his home. 30 years later, the man’s son discovered that the paintings had been stolen in 1970 from London, and that one of them was a Gauguin worth $15 million. Since the owners are deceased, the paintings might ultimately be returned to the now-retired factory worker.
