FACT OF THE DAY: Tribal people in East Africa use the male driver ant as an emergency suture for an open wound. They capture an ant, position it to bite on either sides of the cut, and then break off the body, locking the ant’s mandibles shut. These sutures are strong enough to hold for days, and can be reapplied while the wound heals.
