Hello!
I've been studying improv in LA (at the Westside Comedy Theater), and I'm moving to Austin.
I don't know the scene there. What houses should I look into to continue?
Thanks!

All the theaters are active and up-to-date on this site. Most theaters (if not all) offer a free class monthly. There's also a variety of jams and mixers that are a great way to sample the theaters and get a feel for their community.
There's also a (almost) daily update of what's happening tonight.

Nice to meet you. Hope you see you around.

Hi!
Cool, I want to know about Westside Comedy theater Share any experience from out there. There's a perception that LA just has the big institution theaters, so I love hearing about new ones as they come up. And the overall "indie scene."

Hi August!
You're joining one of the best improv communities in the world. Like Jon said there's five schools operating, each with their own style, but it's all a big melting pot of talented improvisers who flit from theater to theater.
I recommend joining the FB group, attending free classes to see what you like, and joining some of the open jams.
And when you move here, feel free to post in the forums or the FB group to organize a happy hour. You'll find plenty of imps willing to drink beer and talk shop.
Look forward to meeting you!

Hey, guys!
Thanks for the warm welcome and the info. Much appreciated! Move date hasn't been set yet, but I won't let a little unpacking get in the way of improv!
Spots - the Westside is great. Been around for a few years. Owners are all Chicago-trained, and they keep to that style in their classes. Tight-knit bunch, and they're all super-talented. I don't know what the more institutional theatres are like, but I'm very happy to have trained at Westside.
Thanks again!

Hi August
If you want to and are here in time, my wife and I are out of town for most of November and all of December if you want to sublet a place while you look around.

If you disrespect your character, or play it just for laughs, it will sell some gags, but it's all technique.
