I'm not sure it's Austin's fault. The auto repair industry seems to be to be laced with incompetence and downright villainy. My stupid-ass car I have to own because Minnesota is a frozen tundra of doom 5 months out of the year had to be towed twice in the span of a month for different problems, and the second time I had to have my car towed to a different shop because the first quoted me a price about $2000 over what it should have been.

Vehicles blow. Most car mechanics just make it worse.
Fatigued, but classy.

just what I was looking for! AN ENTIRE THREAD DEVOTED TO HORRIBLE GROOVY EXPERIENCES.

most people have already read my facebook rantings, but I'll go ahead and add this gem to the forum mix.

Well for me, I got an oil change. And I also got 200 dollars from a sealed envelope that was inside the CENTER CONSOLE of my car. They literally searched my car for cash.

Oh, but all the cameras are pointed in directions that don't actually show my car. But Jim knows that his "guys just wouldn't do such a thing."

And oh, the mechanics told me that Mike, the guy who worked on my car, got arrested the same night he stole my money for a DUI and is going to jail, but Jim, the General Manager, told me that he "left to start his own business, and that he has great character."

They are complete liars and crooks.

Ugh. That really sucks Ruby.

Several people in the thread mentioned it, but the M.E. Gene Johnson place on Airport Blvd near Coldtowne seems honest and fair the times I've dealt with them. They've got an oil change place next door. It's $29 if I remember correctly, but there's never been an upsell or any of the other hassle common in discount places the times I've been there.

And while I'm linking to yelp, anyone else who's ever had a bad experience at Groovy: if you haven't done so already, how about write a yelp review describing what you went through, to help others avoid them in the future?

okay - you guys caught me. In reality I just wanted this thread to be brought up again. AND MY PLANNED WORKED!

also, how stupid that I still went to Groovy Lube, eh? I think I assumed that just getting oil changes wouldn't ruin my car. And they are so conveniently located! But no, they suck and no one should go there ever.

They're located near the college so they're going to continue to get business from UT students. I was a UT student who once thought cars ran on magic, and I probably brought my car to Groovy Lube without knowing any better.

Does anybody remember the University Garage where Mangia's is now?

I used to live in the yellow house behind there. The owner used to throw the city's trash cans in my yard. Every week until I confronted him. Because the CITY would place trash cans in front his parking spot. He would get out of his truck & lob them at my house. I'm pretty sure mechanics don't have to be dicks.
