The B. Iden Payne Awards are named in honor of UT's famed Shakespearean scholar and director, Dr. Ben Iden Payne. Dr. Payne is credited with helping to launch England's Repertory Theater system and revolutionizing the way we teach and perform Shakespeare. Payne also was the first person to define a college curriculum in theater and drama that could prepare students for professional theater careers. Dr. Payne passed away in 1975, a year after ACoT's first Awards ceremony. From thereon, the Awards have borne the B. Iden Payne's name in his honor.

Like the Tony's, is a peer award ceremony with winners being selected by ACotT membership ballot. (Individuals joining ACoT on or before October 20 are eligible to receive a ballot vote.) Ballots are collected and tabulated by KPMG, and nobody knows the real winners till that night. The envelope please . . .
Tickets are a minimum $10 donation.

The nominees are:
You Me & Greg
Girls Girls Girls
Foolish Mortals
The Frank Mills
ColdTowne

To find out who the winner is, you'll have to show up on Monday, October 30. Or wait for the forum discussion to begin immediately afterwards.

the winner of last night's b. iden payne / the rudy kloptic award for outstanding improvisational theatre ensemble was awarded to the Frank Mills.

Latifah and Chris Trew presented!
Dave gave a great improv speech and told the entire theater community how much the improv community appreciated being included AND that 'if you think improv is just what you see on who's line is it anyway- you should come see some shows at the hideout or coldtowne theater, where we are acting, writing and directing at the same time... and...etc. etc (he said it even better than that though)
There were at least seven AIC improvisers there - they all looked fancy and smart!

Lets keep rockin’ and have improv included in the official awards process next year!
This is a real win for Austin Improv!

thanks and love and hugs.
FU

Congrats Mr. Mills and co. Chris came home last night from the ceremony gushing about what a great, inspiring speech that Dave gave. So thank you on top of the congrats. I abbreviate the word because I can't ever spell it out correctly. Congradyoulayshuns.
