FACT OF THE DAY: The youngest surviving casualty of World War I is a 30-year-old Belgian woman named Maité Roël, who lost a leg in 1991 when she threw a 75-year-old German shell onto a campfire (believing it to be a log). She receives the same benefits as any other civilian casualty: a monthly stipend and half-price rail tickets.
