Improv Audition at MerlinWorks Mixer September 7

Post by Matthew Arisheh »

Hey everybody,

I'm Matthew and I ran Black Box Productions (http://BlackBoxImprov.com) in Atlanta, GA before moving to Austin. Under that umbrella I founded groups such as IMPROV! The Musical, The Instant Movie, and Ultimate Improv Challenge. I'm looking to start a group here.

I'll be holding auditions as part of the Merlin Works Mixer on the September 7th. You can sign up here:

Please also fill out this audition form:

http://www.blackboximprov.com/audition-form/

The group will focus on cinematic, genre-based narrative improv with a strong emphasis on advanced space work and ensemble mentality. Required reading for group members will be Save the Cat! Goes to the Movies by Blake Snyder:

The group will ideally consist of 8-12 members with an even number of males and females. This group will assemble weekly. The assemblies many consist of a workshop, performance, or movie study. Members must be able attend at least 80-90% of the weekly assemblies. If they cannot make an assembly, they must provide at least a 24 hour notice, barring an emergency. Workshops will be held at a gym facility in the Domain shopping complex. Scheduling will be based on cast and venue availability. Workshops and performances will be reasonably physically demanding. Ideally members should enjoy physical activity and use that shared interest to help build ensemble mentality.

The group will study and perform one genre over the course of several months. A long term goal for the group is mastering several genres till the group can improvise the genre itself based on the audience suggestion. Which genres we study will be based on the interests of the members of the group.

Call backs will be on either Sept 21 and 22. Sorry for the delay between the initial audition and call backs, but I'll be producing an improv event in Atlanta during the time between. However, I will let you know if you made the call back asap.
