FACT OF THE DAY: "Puppy pregnancy syndrome" is a mass-hysteria phenomenon in some rural Indian states where villagers believe that dog bites result in the bite victim being impregnated by puppies. Victims of the phenomenon (male and female) claim that they can feel or hear puppies growing in their abdomen. The belief has resulted in increased deaths from rabies, since bite victims consult witch doctors to cure their pregnancy, rather than seeking medical care for the bite.
