There is no concievable way I can see myself stopping my life and education to participate in that meaningless drivel they call a TV program. I've seen that show before, it's all sexual tension and partying.

heh "young wonders"

I think I'm too old, but I'd love to be on that show just to screw with some stupid, drunk, over-sexed 20 year olds. My hip MTV name would be Loki and I'd live up to it.

Wes, us 30-year-olds are grandparents in MTV years.

Mo (hunched over a cane): Back in the '90s, The Real World had substance! Remember Pedro, the guy with AIDS? He didn't have the T cells to party like an animal and destroy IKEA furniture!! And we LIKED IT that way! </old>

I had the same conversation with Kaci this morning: "Back in my day, the people on The Real World were pretty decent folk. They actually had dreams and skills. they didn't just get drunk every night. Well, some of them."

Back in my day, douchebags from the Real World became hosts on MTV Grind, and continued to torment me long after their 15 minutes were up.

You work your life away and what do they give?

Nope, but I had a younger sister, and I'd watch MTV for stuff like The State and the animation they used to show. This is the reason I don't have TV anymore. Commercials (for crap like The Grind) find their way into my head and DON'T EVER LEAVE.

*breath*

I'm ok.

My shame/salvation is that I never really found any of the characters on Real World compelling and to this day I've only seen about 3 episodes all the way through. I tried, but it always seemed forced and fake. And then when I saw some people, like Puck, go on to do other things because of it, I just stopped watching out of principle.

Whatever. Puck saw the show for the farce it was, and played MTV from the beginning for his own benefit.

I'll give him smarts and savvy. Still doesn't mean that it was any less annoying to see him VJing Beach House parties.

Hate the game, not the player only applies when I find the player somewhat agreeable to begin with. I didn't care for either.

This is just one vehicle through which I'll never connect to my, or this new, generation. But it would still be fun to get on and screw with the other cast members.

I actually liked the Real World Paris... it seemed different from all the rest. It reminded me of my education abroad experience in France. I believe it was showing in 2002 right before I packed my TV safely into my closet.

I live right next to what was the Real World Austin house (now Rio Grande Restaurant) and we were so worried that things were going to be chaos with them around but it was actually quite quiet. They are subjected to strange things.... no music, no TV, no open windows, etc... which doesn't sound like fun to me.

The Austin cast seemed very young (I believe the cut off age now is 26 at time of filming... 25 at time of application) and the one girl was so small that when I turned the corner and bumped into her, I basically launched her (Andrea, no doubt, can sympathize). It was all caught on tape by the camera crew walking with her, though, I never watched the show to see if it made it on the air.

Mike, my admiration for you grows by leaps and bounds. Anyone who gets caught on film by a nationally televised show and doesn't even bother to watch the show is someone to be emulated. Except that you won't be, but still.
