FACT OF THE DAY: In 1784 a Japanese sailor named Chunosuke Matsuyama sent a message in a bottle that detailed his shipwrecking, along with 43 shipmates. The bottle washed ashore in 1935, in the village of Hiraturemura, Matsuyama's birthplace.
