not a great turnout, but...
Thanks for getting those flyers out for me!!! We only had 4 audience member for GSOT, but those 4 had a great time and asked to take 25 or so flyers with them to put up at their jobs and to give to friends. They heard about the show because they came to another show 2 weeks ago and grabbed a flyer off of the counter. They tried to get more info from either the Hideout website or the AIC site and they said there was no mention of it anywhere. What do I need to do to make that happen?
Dave and Bob M were great!!! They did a Bassprov type show where they sat on the couch and used the fact that T.O. had no catches in the game thus far as a metaphor for life and love. It was really great to watch them just have a real conversation between 2 characters that wasn't about the game really.
The videos were a big hit with the audience. They really enjoyed those. At one point, they wanted to watch the video instead of going back to the game AND that was during an exciting part of the game.
All in all, I'd say it was a success. There were some bugs at first tech-wise, but one of the audience members climbed up in the booth and fixed it. He also offered to donate a power antenna (sp?) to help get a stronger signal/clearer picture. They were planning on coming back next week with friends.
Special thx to Bob A, Troy, Bob M, and Dave for pitching in and helping out! I hope some of you will try to make it out next week to see Dallas vs. Houston at 12:00. Bring a couple of buck for hot dogs and nachos by Bob A!!!

Re: not a great turnout, but...
I'll definitely start putting it in the schedule on austinimprov.com. If you can send me a show blurb and a graphic to squeeze into one of those rounded squares, that'd be great. As is, Kaci and I plugged the hell out of the show at the end of the Double Barrel.improvstitute wrote:They tried to get more info from either the Hideout website or the AIC site and they said there was no mention of it anywhere. Mmm, weenies...
The AIC should consider getting a projector so there's one permanently mounted in the upstairs theater because I'm guessing Coldtowne will be using theirs more in the near future. It's only by sheer luck that we had a projector today and we totally owe Coldtowne (as usual.)
Regardless, we can take this as an opportunity to sort out what AIC resources are availiable to market shows and how show owners can best take advantage of them. (Do we already have such a list?)
Stuff like contacting the Chronicle & other print media (Erika knows about this?), getting art made (?), getting a banner ad in rotation on the forums (me), updating the online calendar & portal site (Eric? Andy C.?), getting on the print schedule (Scheduling Committee), flyering (?). What else can we do and when do people need to do what, and for whom?
IMHO we pulled our shizzle together and gave those 4-6 people a pretty good show and meal and I actually enjoyed the game (drama! action! The Stare!) It'd be cool if we had more people next weekend, if only so Ted & I didn't have to eat the last 4 weenies ourselves. Mmm, weenies...

What are the details on the next show? I had a flyer, but I seem to have misplaced it.

Roy - the next show is this Sunday. The game is the Cowboys vs Texans at 12:00. The featured troupe is the Foolish Mortals.
FYI...all games from this point on are at 12:00 on Sundays. The dates after this week are Nov 5, Dec 3 and Dec 12.
I saw that you had the graphic up on the site. It looked great. the only thing that needs correcting is the time of the game. I got an email yesterday from one of the audience members. He pointed out that the time says 6pm.
To all...looks like this is going to have some repeat business. The best way I know to build up an audience is to have good shows and give them a reason to come back. We all know that the bigger the audience, the better the show is in general. Laughter is contageous. Please try to come out and support this show. It is a very laid back atmosphere and the video commercial breaks make the game go by much more quickly. I am adding a new component this week of football squares pool. I am considering 2 types of squares - one that is free to play and the prizes are tix to future shows and the otehr is one where you pay for squares and the winners get the money from the pool.
The whole reason I am doing this show is to try and expand our audience base. I want to get new people out to see what we do. I am not in this for the money. I just want to get people out to see a show. I would like to give away free tix to future GSOT shows and other AIC shows so that we can get people hooked. It's like crack dealers giving the first couple of rocks for free so that they can create a "need" for their product. I want the people of Austin to need improv and I want the AIC to be the dealers that they buy from.
Does the AIC have an official position on me giving away tix to other AIC shows in an attempt to help fill empty seats and build a following for the AIC? Having empty seats only hurts us IMHO.
Thoughts?

Fixed, updated and so forth. I had just guessed 6pm based on the UT game, but that was foolish of me.improvstitute wrote: Roy - the next show is this Sunday. The game is the Cowboys vs Texans at 12:00. The featured troupe is the Foolish Mortals.

Ted, I believe Mike from the Leading Brands is in charge of getting more AIC Free Ticket Business Cards. Also, Andy Crouch might have more information.improvstitute wrote:Does the AIC have an official position on me giving away tix to other AIC shows in an attempt to help fill empty seats and build a following for the AIC? I think you should absolutely give those out at all GSOT shows.

With regard to the free ticket policy - there is nothing preventing you from promoting this show and others with promotional fee tickets. As we have done to date, we just ask that improvisors distribute them responsibly (i.e. not to their friends who would pay to see shows anyway). You can get them off of me or Andy Crouch for distribution at your event, hopefully in some valued context (e.g. as prizes, etc..).

Yes...my plan is to give them to the winners of the football squares pool each Sunday. I'd like to give away 4 pairs of passes each Sunday in this way. I'd also like to do some other things like have the audince members predict the score and the closest wins a pair.
Besides...I have no friends to give them to
Can Andy or Mike leave me a stash of them for this weekend (at least 4 pairs) or better yet...a big stash for me to use at the remaining 4 shows so I don't have to track them down each week?

FYI - there is an art car parade tomorrow on Congress. It brings out an eclectic crowd if people are available to flyer like they did at First Thursday.
Details:
The West Austin News will hold its 4th Annual Art Car Parade tomorrow, Saturday, October 20th.
The cars will begin at 300 Congress Avenue and drive south to the Congress Avenue Baptist Church at 1511 S. Congress. Traffic on Congress and on cross streets will be impacted for approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
