Improv in Bizarro Austin

Post by Brad Hawkins »

I'm going to be going to Bizarro Austin later this year, and would love to get some ideas for improv shows to see!

I've already got plans to catch Feckless Thugs: Improvised Aaron Sorkin, and Demolished Matters: Improvised Stories in the Style of Alfred Bester. What else should I catch?
The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.

Crimson Shift is supposed to be pretty good. it's an improvised utopian gospel brunch, set at the dawn of time.

Oh, yeah, Jan Royik of Chlorophylosophistication is directing Public Knowledge, a show based on submitted truisms, aphorisms, urban legends, and other bits of conventional wisdom. I may go see that.

the Black Vault is a constant in every world, every realm, every dimension. legends of it stretch back as far as recorded time, and before. echoes of it extend to the end of days. no one knows where it came from. no one knows where it may be found. but we are unified across space and time, through barriers of dimension and imagination...unified in our trembling...

Good Men continue their run at Warmecity doing Improvised "A Few Good Men". For some reason it hasn't gotten old.

I'm really looking forward to Austin Blurt-outs where everything everyone feels all the time is inspiration for the most unsubtle scenes ever.

I was a huge fan of Fan Dumb: Improvised Internet Message Boards! the way they really captured the feel of inane fanboys bitching about every slightest thing and sucking the joy out of any fictional property was REALLY impressive, I thought!

Don't forget to see "Shhhhhhhh": Improvised Librarians.

They shelve books and whisper about the importance of the Dewey Decimal System.
