How has improv brought you joy recently?

Post by booksherpa »

- Watching a 4 year old find the (simple) game as she was being silly: "Your name is MISTER booksherpa! Your name is Mrs. Cow! Now your name is Mrs. Pig!"
- Surviving (and enjoying!) an all musical games class session
- Spotting the game in the scene and using that knowledge to successfully enter the scene, then watching my fellow players spot the game and enter the scene en masse, driving the point home hilariously
- Kicking ass at Da Doo Run Run and rhyming like a mofo
- Trying the Sit/Stand/Kneel - Alphabet mashup and having a great scene
- Making progress in starting my own group, peopled with awesome players

Seeing all the write ups as of lately, especially those from the Golden Globes about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, that validate all the time I have spent playing onstage, in class and in the world as nut just fun, but worthwhile.

Signing in students for three classes simultaneously and then hearing group laughter from the three different rooms throughout the night.

Watching the cast of Thinning the Herd celebrate their weight loss in the shows id one of the most fulfilling experiences I have ever had on stage.

Seriously, I have felt so much joy during these shows. It is just amazing.

Started La Ronde rehearsals tonight. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I feel giddy and energetic and excited about improv. I'm always excited about improv, but this was special excitement. I could spend 2 hours EVERY night doing that!

Learning a long form, playing with good and experienced people, a mix of people, some new, some known to me... I could really jump up and down!

I'm in a practice group which is nice because my ratio of practice to performance is always skewed. It's nice to just work on stuff.

Seeing level one classes where men are in the minority, and realizing comedy has the ability to reverse or transcend social trends.

Seeing stand up comedians join level one classes and admit that it's not as easy as they thought.

The realization that this is just the beginning!

I have to agree; that show was amazing. And if you combine Strange Worlds with one of the Hideout's new beverages (my preference is the Manhattan Story) it creates an atmosphere you want to remain in for a very long time.
