Best Show Lines 2013

Post by happywaffle »

Clifton Highfield does a monologue in the Jan. 7th Rubber Room. He's field-dressing a deer onstage, then looks up to the trees.

"Oh hi there, Mr. Bluebird!"
(somebody offstage responds with whistling)
"I'm sorry I had to remove this deer from your habitat."
(whistling)
"Well, I gotta put a wedding ring in its stomach and give it to my wife."

From Thinning the Herd, January 6, 2013.

The cast is playing while doing Bill Cosby impressions. Heidi Caldwell's impression was "I'm wearing an ugly sweater".

"I heard you gotta use a crowbar to get Jesus out of that girl."
- Andrew Bassile, Toy Boat, ColdTowne 1/13/13
The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.

From Dervish, at the Hideout, 1/10/13:
Lisa Jackson (playing a hooker): "So... you want me to act like your dead wife?"
<lies down on floor, folds hands over chest>

Brad Hawkins in rehearsal as Jon Locke.

Asaf: Jon, how do you feel about Ke$ha?
Brad (in flawless Jon Locke impression): ...Her first album was better.

Favorite moment of the week.

I have two from last night's Fandom show, which was Batman!

Aaron Saenz and Mia were "battling" to be Batman in the show, and they had to wrap up a mystery with 3 clues from the audience, and after Aaron delivered this long, ridiculous, bad-ass, spot on wrap up that the audience loved, Mia just walked on stage to do her wrap up and said something to the effect of, "Computer, figure it out!" and that was it. It was so beautiful and so perfect!

In a later scene, an audience member was on stage giving Batman (Aaron) relationship advice while on a date with Poison Ivy (Courtney Hopkin).

Batman: What do I talk about next?!
Audience Member: Uh...ask her about politics!!
Batman: What party are you for?
Poison Ivy: The Green Party.

So damn brilliant! It was my favorite Fandom show yet. There were so many awesome moments!

there was a great pseudo callback to this later in the narrative, when Batman (Aaron) gives Robin (Kaci) an inspiring and lengthy speech about how he, as Tim Drake, is the greatest detective he's ever known and only he can solve this case. Kaci then turns and says, "I'm getting on the computer!" worked perfectly as its own moment, but it was such a great book end to the earlier scene as well!

that scene alone was filled with gems! Aaron sarcastically asking the female audience volunteer if she had "much experience dating girls." she answered "yes." turned out she was actually there on a date with her girlfriend. ;) and Aaron's button, "how much do you weigh?" such a beautiful reference!

agreed! i may come back and post more throughout the day as i'm able to single them out from the cloud of collective awesome! 8) for now, two favorites...

::the final round of the Batman tournament was between me and Aaron. the challenge was to deliver a 30 second inspiring Batman speech. Aaron went backstage while i delivered my speech. after i finished...::

Aaron (FROM THE TECH BOOTH!): CITIZENS OF GOTHAM!

in that 30 seconds, he had gone out through the back alley, run around to the front of the theatre, through the coffee house, back into the theatre, and climbed up into the tech booth! it was a moment of total magic and insanity and perfection. :)

then during the story...

Mia (as fake Batman): I've gathered all of you kids here because you're the children of Gotham's most infamous villains!
Peter (as Joker's son): Hmm...maybe we should all run away and form our own team!

my levels of nerd joy went beyond capacity. :)

Marc: Is she your woman?
Kevin: Well, we really view it as more of a partnership.
Courtney: We're equals.
Marc: Is he your man?
Courtney: Yes.

(a show full of amazing lines, but this exchange made me burst out in applause. ;) )

Improvised LOST. Charlie (Ryan Austin) approaches Sayid (Kareem).

"Is that peanut butter?"
"Dharma hummus, want some?"
"...Maybe we could put a peanut butter logo on it and just tell Claire that it's really old."

Michael Joplin with TKN at the Threefer 01/31

Joplin (repeating thoughtfully to himself Ace's previous line)
"A nubile virgin for my teeth to be sunk into.."

You absolutely had to be there, but it was the greatest thing in the world.
