FACT OF THE DAY: The comics character Snuffy Smith is named after a World War II hero, Maynard Harrison Smith, who helped to safely land his B-29 bomber after it had been attacked and set on fire by German fighters. Smith's plane sustained over 3,500 bullet and shrapnel hits and broke in half as it landed.
