The B. Iden Payne thingy

So, I could tell some of you were in the audience based on your laughter (Beeler, Jordan) and some based on having won an award (GGG).

But I'm curious, who else were there?

Also, I wish some of you had stuck around for the after party. I had a lot of great discussions with people in the acting community about wanting to check out more improv or being impressed with the growth of improv. I would have loved for some of you to be in on those conversations as well

There are quite a few of them (including the Executive Director of the Awards, Julie Wright) who are pushing for more integration of the improv scene into the theater scene. Getting to know us all on a more face-to-face basis would definitely be a great step towards that.

I know it runs late and I don't slight anyone for having had to leave early. Just something I hope to see at future B. Iden Payne Awards. Including having some of us be presenters alongside other big figures in the theater community. Why not? I mean we've already hosted.

I presented an award in 2010.
But yes, I'm all for more integration and communication.

I've been going to lots of plays in Austin this year. I usually talk to the actors/crew afterward if I liked it. I don't go see much of the musical theater stuff, but I try to see the straight plays and the experimental pieces that catch my eye.

I'd like to personally push for more collaboration between the worlds. Talking at a party is fine, but actually working together? That would be amazing. It's one of my goals.

I was there. I thought you and Tom did a stellar job.

I can't wait til the 2014 awards when improv is more integrated into the overall awards. Seriously excited for that.

Me too! Integrate! I would also love to see improv shows get nominated in categories like set design, directing, etc. etc. And I want Sara Farr to get nominated for puppetry (there's a puppetry category!)

Asaf and Tom did a really wonderful job representing AIC on stage last night. It was fun to be a part of the action!

I was there, I thought you guys did a great job hosting.

I left after intermission because I didn't really know much about the other plays that were being honored. I didn't realize that the after party would be a good opportunity to schmooze. Next year I will stay - thanks for the heads up.
