Diplomacy.

Post by arthursimone »

Whilst in New Orleans, we had a great email Diplomacy game going. It's like Risk in terms of conquering the world, but is based entirely in strategy and turns rather than live rolls of the dice.

I'd like to get this started, but last time I was the moderator and simply don't have time to nag people about sending in orders or sending out updated maps to indicate turn resolution. I have this great .pdf set up, though. But I'd only want to do this as a player.

If this manages to get going, we would need 4-7 players and one moderator. Playing means one set of orders a day. Or every two days. Nothing extreme. These games are long, but they are terribly fun. They will also lead to informal strategy discussions between players in the green room.

I can explain further, but I'd really need someone else to step up and volunteer as Moderator. (I'm looking at you, PGraph...)

Count me in as a player. I've never actually done the whole Diplomacy-via-email thing, and it sounds like a hoot.

Yes, I'd need more details on how this works by e-mail, but I have many an all-day Diplomacy gaming session in my dark and sordid past.

I'd like to add that I was kicking everyone's ass in the New Orleans game that got interrupted by stupid f'ing storm.

have you ever played before? the rules are simple in theory, but they can get complex real fast, resolving conflict is no small task. it's fun in its own way, though.

we played once before at Roy's but the game kind of fizzled out...

I think I am uniquely qualified for the position and can provide a copy of my resume with my gaming experience and logic training, which you will see is quite extensive. References are available upon request.

My highschool history class played diplomacy for 6 weeks and the results counted as a test grade...None could stop the Turkey/Russian alliance!

...is there still room? i'm ready to diplomacize

ok, we need 7 +1 moderator for a game, and right now I count 8.

Arthur
Marc
Wes
Valerie
Nadine
Jastroch
Cody
+
Kristin as moderator

email me at arthur attttxttt arthursimone.com and I'll compile the email thread to get us started. if you've never played before, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplomacy_%28game%29 for the rules and I'll field some questions about gameplay on the thread.

one of the most annoying things about moderating was getting the ho-hummers to send their orders in by the deadline. hopefully if you want to do this you won't be "that person"
