Executive Director Discussion
Hey, I'm setting up a discussion thread for the Executive Director process. Once we get a definite time and date for the board meeting to discuss the Executive Director job description, we'll post it here. And then we'll post the job description and campaign guidelines when we've decided them. After that, it's a free-for-all.
Just so folks who are potentially interested know, the first term for president will be a trial period of three months. Mainly to test the job out and see what it actually entails. I don't remember if that was explicitly stated elsewhere.

okay, so this one is harder to read but it looks cooler, so i wanted to put it up, too. more interesting are the things in the bckgrd. the ghost of christina, andy's tiny head on my gigantic body, andy and nadine all flirty, wes and kareem all flirty, bob quietly happy that we're using post-it notes again, etc.

Sorry for the late notice but we just confirmed:
The committee chairs will be meeting tomorrow, September 19 at 7pm at the Hideout to discuss their current duties and the duties of the executive director. This meeting is open to AIC members (whatever that currently means) who are interested in attending.
The results of this discussion will be posted in this thread.

notes
here are notes from the executive board meeting.
first, a list of the current responsibilities of the executive board:
Education and Outreach: Make classes and workshops happen. Find teachers and spaces for classes/workshops. Look for educational opportunities elsewhere. Figure out who community wants to reach out to. Schedule outreach activities. Network with outreach contacts. Try to bring in outside teachers.
Social: Initiate ideas for social functions. Help plan and coordinate functions for the AIC. Find spaces, supplies and volunteers for events.
Scheduling: E-mail performers for availability to perform and host for 2 month blocks. Recruit new teams to perform at the Hideout. Schedule performance and hosting dates for all teams. E-mail the schedule to teams, Brenner (at Austin Chronicle) and XL as well as posting it on the forums. Make program for each 2 month block. Make giant calendar for the Hideout wall. Make calendar for the Hideout display case. Keep track of need for volunteers to host.
Secretary: Make, post and print agendas for the general body meetings. Take notes at general body meetings. Remind AIC members to complete their action items. Keep track of items brought up at general body meetings and try to encourage forward motion.

Look for opportunities to advertise in print or web that are affordable and bring in audience. Arrange PR stunts. Contact radio stations. Create postcards to promote branded shows. Maintain website and MySpace page. Distribute free tickets. Solicit feature articles.
Finance: Oversee the account maintenance of the AIC account. Deposit all income from sources (at this point, its the Hideout) into account. Provide full accounting of status of account and analysis (when needed) at monthly AIC meetings. Document all financial dealings and provide copies to

And finally, a list of things that the executive board will do by the end of the term of the initial executive director:

and a few comments:
1. bob a is in charge of the voting process. most of this is figured out and will be dealt with at the meeting. absentee voting is allowed in the week following the general body meeting. details will follow when known.
2. now that the responsiblities are posted, candidacies should be announced. i ask that people announce here and the candidates will all be listed on the agenda for the next meeting.
3. when announcing candidacy, feel free to campaign about what you would do as executive director.
4. all candidates will be allowed 3 minutes to speak at the genera body meeting to promote themselves and their beliefs.
5. a reminder that the initial executive director will be a volunteer for 3 months and will then be evaluated by the executive board for potential reelection.
have at it.

I love this world we have, I have the time and energy to devote to this position, and I care about Austin Improv.
I like meetings and getting things done.
I want to do this.
Chris Trew would bring too much negativity and hopelessness to the AIC.

Some points I would like to make:
I'm already doing a large portion of the duties required of the Executive Director. Scheduling and Advertising meetings are already a part of my life. I'm already organizing large social events (see.hear.speak. AIC Prom, Test Pattern, oob Golf Tournament). The AIC Summer Workshop Series was scheduled and organized by myself and Andy Crouch and out of town instructors are being brought in to teach monthly at the ColdTowne Theater. This dude has strong feelings in the education department.
Hosting Thursday Night Awesome and producing shows at the ColdTowne Theater enables me to maintain a strong relationship with not only AIC folks, but other Austin performers as well. I'm also in a great position to play strong roles at two theaters - still hosting TNA and playing at the Hideout on some Friday nights while producing/performing at the ColdTowne Theater Saturday-Monday night.
I've been lucky enough to get a fair amount of press in my time here (XL Funnywriter Contest Winner, Chronicle Cover, Numerous random ColdTowne write-ups) so I’m comfortable and qualified to be the “public face of the AICâ€
