HELLO! Im Donnie. Chicago Bar-prov in Austin?

Post by DonnieX »

Hello fellow improvisors! I have recently moved back to Austin from Chicago after living there for 3 1/2 years (4 winters). I have rejoined the Cast at Esther's Follies and love being back in Austin, Texas my home. While in Chicago, I was amazed at how many Bars had an improv night of some sort, like most bars here in Austin has an open mic night for bands. I feel that having those nights set aside to perform improv at a bar or bar-prov, is important to cultivating a community of improvisors. So that is what i am doing. Every Monday night at the Lucky Lounge at 9pm starting Aug 13th I will have improvisors from all over Austin come together and do short form, long form, or whatever they would like to perform. The point of this is to have people perform with each other that don't normally. This isnt about promoting a certain improv school in Austin. It's about me seeing the incredible talent of many improvisors here and providing a venue where they can get together, meet for the first time, and have a blast putting on a great show. Thanks guys you all ROCK!

Sounds awesome, I'll add it to the daily listings. One question: it starts August 13? Hasn't it been going for a couple weeks now?

Sounds like a great idea. More stage time for improvisers. More spreading of improv to people who might otherwise not see it. What's not to like?

Good luck!

No Donnie, YOU ROCK. I had a great time at Bar-Prov and I wish work would let up so I can make it to another one!

Thanks Donnie! I hope to come by the Luck Lounge soon.
