Boring work schedule

Post by Vicki »

Howdy and Happy Every Improvisor Post in the Forums Day!!

I have a question for those of you who, like me, work a traditional, boring old 8 to 5 day. How do you do it? I mean all the great stuff seems to happen in the middle of the night. How do you keep up on the social aspect of the community, and not sleep at your desk? I would love to go to the happy hours, and the Free Fringe shows, and the awesome Moonbase parties, but frankly, by midnight I am tired.

Would anyone be interested in starting some Improv brunches or something? I love y'all, but I need my sleep.

This makes me sad. :(

I pretty much don't. Much as I've wanted to, I haven't been to a single Free Fringe show because it is too late on a work night. Even on the weekends, I can't go much later than midnight, which is why you're not likely to see me at any given party, much as I'd love to come.

I'm just happy to be able to participate in the community to the extent that I am able. I relish the opportunities that I do have.

mostly, i just spend most of the next day feeling light headed, dizzy, exhausted, unable to focus, etc. fortunately, a trained monkey could do my job so it doesn't make much difference. and i tend towards being anti-social, so it only happens every once in a while. ;)

My workday starts at 9, which helps a little. But yeah, after Fringe shows or other things that happen late at night on weekdays, I'm pretty tired for the whole day.

I'm taking half days for OOB. I'm not suicidal.
The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.

Could you swing a 9:30-6 w short lunch break? I do along those lines, and it helps a lot.

This is my approach exactly.

I work 6am-2:30pm, so I would pretty much love to have an 8-5. Or 9-5. I'm also 24, and I live alone, and I nap a lot.

I try to get a half-hour nap in after work and before my evening obligations. It helps tremendously. But either way, I'm still generally asleep by 1 AM on a worknight. (That's only six hours of sleep if you have to be at work by 8, but I usually get there around 9.)

More or less this.

I like to take a nap around 4 anyway but take coffee instead, so on days I plan to see a 10-12 show I skip the afternoon caffeine and take a nap from 6-8. That way I'm wired for the show and ready to recrash around 1 AM.

Then I just show up regular grumpy at work the next morning.
